Accident & Sick leave Insurance
LAA (Mandatory Accident insurance)
In Switzerland, employers and companies are legally obliged to insure their employees against accidents. Mandatory accident insurance (UVG) coversthe costs of occupational and non-occupational accidents and occupationaldiseases. The benefits payable under mandatory accident insurance (LAA) are laid down by Law. They cover medical expenses, hospitalization and treatment costs in common ward and a daily compensation benefit of 80% of the salary from the 3rd day until resumption of work or benefit of a disability pension (up to an annual insured salary of CHF148,200).
LAAC (Supplemental Accident insurance)
With supplemental accident insurance (LAAC), you can add useful complementary benefits to the ones required by law and adapt them to your needs (including for example daily compensation of 10% of the SLAA and 90 % of the Excess Salary from the 3rd day until resumption of work or benefit of a disability pension, Hospitalization and treatment costs in private ward, Gross negligence, Disability & Survivors lump-sum, etc.).
Loss of earnings following Sickness Insurance
A vast marjority of employers also take out insurance for loss of earnings following Sickness (daily allowance during illness) proved by medical certificate, in order to be able to keep paying their employees 80% of the salary during prolonged absences caused by illness. Employers contribute for at least 50% of the premiums. Wage continuation applies for the duration of the employee’s inability to work, for a maximum duration of 730 days.
